ASUU Strike: FG To Disburse N23bn To ASUU Next Week

The Federal Government has scheduled to give out the sum of N23 billion to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

This was made known by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, on Tuesday while speaking before TETFUND and Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, by Senator Jibrin Barau.

From his statement, he disclosed that the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has approved the sum of N53bn for ASUU, stating that the sum of N23bn will be given to the Union on Monday.

He also stressed that the government did not agree with ASUU on their request to remove TSA, this is because it is a new policy established and can not be changed by the government for anyone.

 However, he added that the issue of lectures salary short fall, was as a result of Universities recruiting workers without proper authority.

Finally, the Minister said that the ongoing strike will be called off within one week maximum.
